You Could Be So Much Happier Than You Realise
How to transform your mind through meditation, mindfulness, and spiritual practice.
There is a timeless truth that modern psychology is only just beginning to catch up with: happiness and misery are not conditions of your life; they are conditions of your mind.
Transform your mind with mindfulness, meditation and spiritual practice.
Most of us spend our entire lives trying to rearrange the outside world. We think, "If I can just get the right job, the perfect relationship, or enough money, then I will finally be at peace." But the truth is, you can be sitting in a palace and feel utterly miserable, or you can face the most challenging circumstances and remain anchored in an unshakable inner calm.
So what is the secret? The external world is just a mirror. The lens you look through determines what you see. You have a choice to look through another lens. The point of power is always in the now.
The Two States of the Mind
Ancient wisdom reminds us that the human mind can act as either our greatest ally or our worst enemy. When left unmanaged, the mind naturally defaults to a state of lack, anxiety, and reaction. It clings to the past, worries about the future, and constructs a web of assumptions that fuels our suffering.
True liberation begins when you realise you are not the chaos of your thoughts or the storm of your emotions—you are the space in which those thoughts happen.
When we live in a state of misery, the mind is entirely outwardly focused. It constantly seeks validation and joy from changing external circumstances, leaving us at the mercy of things we cannot control. This reactive mind is bound by conditioning, reacting automatically based on past hurts, old habits, and deep-seated fears. It is entirely identified with the ego—easily threatened, quick to judge, and prone to feeling separate or lonely.
Conversely, when we step into an awakened state of mind, we become inwardly anchored. We understand that peace is an internal baseline, entirely independent of outer events. This mind is present and spacious, allowing us to choose our responses consciously from a place of clear awareness rather than blind reaction. It is deeply connected to the Source, experiencing life from a profound sense of wholeness and unity.
The Power of Practice: Moving into Spiritual Maturity
I hear so often that a teacher is not needed and this simply isn’t true. Everything you have learned so far needed a teacher e.g. your mother teaching you to tie your shoe laces. Your parents or teacher teaching you to read or write. It is no different in spirituality.
In any genuine spiritual journey, the presence of a true teacher is invaluable. Left entirely to its own devices, the human ego is incredibly clever. It naturally avoids discomfort, rationalises its old habits, and tricks us into staying exactly where we are. We need a teacher to serve as a clean mirror—someone who can see past our defensive walls, challenge our illusions, and gently but firmly nudge us into doing the real, uncomfortable inner work that leads to actual change. The teacher can see your blind spots and help you get out of the trap of being stuck, circling in the same patterns that create suffering. Ultimately we must wake up to the fact that we mostly create our own suffering.
However, the ultimate purpose of a true teacher is not to keep you dependent on them forever, but to guide you toward your own spiritual maturity. A true guide points you directly toward your own inner compass.
Transformation does not happen by accident or by simply reading books; it happens through dedicated, daily spiritual discipline under proper guidance. Just as you would trust a trainer to safely push your physical body past its perceived limits, you commit to deep practices that dismantle the ego and strengthen your spiritual foundation.
The Tools of Transformation
To shift your mind from a place of misery to one of lasting joy, you cannot rely on meditation or Reiki hands-on healing alone. You must integrate a complete daily system:
Meditation: The daily quiet foundation that creates inner space for observing what arises in the mind i.e. seeing one’s patterns and also rest deeply in the stillness of your Being.
Mindfulness: The daily active bridge that carries that awareness into your day.
Spiritual Practice: The moment-to-moment conscious choice to lean into love and peace during difficult moments.
Pure Awareness: When a difficult emotion or a wave of misery arises, instead of fighting it or running away, you learn to sit with it. You breathe into it. By bringing the light of your awareness to your dark spaces, the negativity naturally begins to dissolve.
The Mind Can Be Transformed
I really want to tell you that it doesn’t matter how long you have suffered from anxiety, low mood, sadness, anger or hurt, the moment you learn to live in the present then everything changes. If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or heavy, know this: your mind is not fixed. It is incredibly malleable. Through consistent spiritual practice, you can literally re-wire your internal reality.
You have the power to close the door on cycles of misery and step into a life of profound, self-sustained happiness. The seat of authority is within you. It always has been. It is simply waiting for you to claim it.
